Thomas Matapure
BSc Civil Engineering (Hons)
Senior Engineer
Degree Qualified Engineer with over 29 years’ experience
After completing GSCE's and A Levels, Thomas began his career as a Trainee Structural Technician in Zimbabwe in 1986. He gained a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering (Structures) from Harare Polytechnic College. Whilst working for consulting engineering firms, he progressed to Senior Technician over the next 15 years before emigrating to the UK.
In the UK, Thomas initially continued to work as a Structural/Senior Structural Technician on a contract and permanent basis. After graduating from university with a BSc Civil Engineering Degree, progressed his career in structural engineering , starting as a graduate engineer and rising to a senior structural engineer.
Over the years Thomas has worked on several projects from simple single story extension as well as multi story new builds in the residential, public, and private sectors. Thomas is proficient in designing using concrete, masonry, steel as well as timber.
Thomas joined Beaumont Structural Consultants in 2022 as a Senior Structural Engineer. Thomas undertakes design of various structural projects of varying sizes and complexities. One notable project he has worked on is a multi-million pound, two-story, steel framed, house with a concrete basement. The foundation for this house was a raft slab foundation incorporating tension piles to stop any buoyancy occurring from the likely high ground water table. He also checks designs of some projects before SER Certification. Thomas has now gained extensive and immeasurable knowledge from his over 30 years’ experience.
In his spare time, Thomas is a keen gardener, enjoys travelling and holidaying with his family. He is an avid Christian, serving as a trustee and secretary of his local church. He also serves as a board member for his local church, as well as on the regional and national boards of the church.
Ross Mitchell
MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE
Associate Director
Chartered Engineer, Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers
10 years’ experience working in London, Edinburgh and Jersey.
Ross is an Associate Director at BSC. He is a Chartered Structural Engineer with the Institution of Structural Engineers, and was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where he got his MEng (hons) in Civil Engineering.
Ross gladly designs and oversees large and complex projects. This entails advanced and efficient technical design, but of course also managing good relations and smooth communication with clients, contractors and other designers (mostly architects).
Ross has worked in structural engineering consultancy in London, Edinburgh and Jersey, collecting a wide range of experience over 10 years.
In London this entailed designing many large fancy architectural houses in the Home Counties, several high-value city centre basement underpinning projects, and opening up small Victorian terraced houses to their full, modern potential and value.
In Edinburgh, he designed several large city centre historic building refurbishments, converting beautiful old school, hospital and mill buildings into hotels and apartments, where a sensitive touch was key to dovetailing structural design with conservation.
In Jersey, he has a wealth of design experience with architecturally ambitious new residential projects, often on tough sites - where the best views are. His most publicly accessible projects are Flannels & Sports Direct on King St (which was BHS), and Caxton’s – also on King St, which was Hamons.
Mark Gibbon
Associate Director
HNC in Civil Engineering
Qualified with over 20 years’ experience.
Mark started out as a trainee structural technician in 1997 and has accrued 27 years’ experience across a broad range of Structural and Civil projects. Mark joined BSC Ltd in 2007.
As a trainee structural technician Mark completed his Advanced GNVQ and HNC part time through Highlands College and was consecutively awarded the Jersey Federation of Consulting Engineers Award for Technician Level Construction Engineering Studies 1998, 1999 and 2000.
Mark has evolved his experience and skills set through ongoing learning to progress through trainee structural technician, trainee assistant civil engineer, senior technician engineer, project engineer to Associate Director here at BSC Ltd.
Mark oversees the ‘small works’ team here at BSC Ltd, typically projects with professional fees below £15,000. As well as overseeing all these projects, mentoring the graduate engineer and technician members of the team Mark also completes the majority of insurance projects and has good working relations with the Loss Adjusters typically assigned to insurance projects.
‘Small projects can often be just as complicated as large projects and offer their own obstacles. A recent subsidence project lead me to develop a scheme where we temporarily raised the height of timber first floor to allow piling rig access and maintain lateral stability. A matrix of piles were installed connected by ground beams which cantilevered beyond the piles to offer support beneath the external walls which were sinking. This approach, whilst receiving ‘raised eyebrows’ from both client and Loss Adjuster, resulted in a cost effective solution, suited the on-site constraints and avoided replacing the existing conservatory which would have been necessary with external piling works’.
Mark’s spare time is spent fishing from shore and kayak, gardening and enjoying the outdoors with his wife and son.
Sonia Real Rosas
Graduate Engineer
Working towards Chartered Engineer
Sonia graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Alicante University in Spain before moving to Jersey. She began her career at BSC in 2015 and has since accumulated extensive experience as an engineer, contributing to projects of various sizes and complexities. Sonia is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer, an accreditation which will further solidify her credentials. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Germaine Gravador
BEng (Hons)
Graduate Engineer
Degree Qualified Engineer with over 6 years’ experience
Germaine started at BSC 4 years ago, she currently works on the small works team with Mark as a graduate engineer on small residential projects where she designs, details, and draws construction plans.
Some notable projects Germaine has recently worked on include structures involving steel frame designs, loft conversions and extensions. She enjoys working alongside architects from start to finish to turn the ideas into reality.
Having completed her BEng (Hons) at the University of Portsmouth in 2014, Germaine then worked for various structural consultancies in Brighton, reinforcing her knowledge of materials, mechanics, and structures. Germaine aims to further progress herself in the near future by moving on to a higher-level qualification.
Outside of work Germaine enjoys leisure swimming, riding her bike and salsa dancing.

Ian Harris
BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering
Graduate Engineer
Ian joined BSC in 2018 as a trainee technician with no prior experience in the construction or engineering sectors. Later in 2018 he joined the HNC in Civil Engineering course at Highlands, day release alongside full-time employment with BSC. This allowed Ian to develop his practical knowledge and experience while also gaining theoretical knowledge through study. In 2020 the course transitioned to BEng level, in 2023 he completed the course becoming a graduate engineer.
In Ian’s time at BSC, he has progressed from a trainee technician, mainly focused on drawing and detailing, to designer for small elements within the broader scope of larger schemes, to designer for complete extensions and property redevelopments. Recently, he has taken on more project engineer roles, liaising with clients and contractors to develop solutions for complications as they arise on site.
In his free time, Ian enjoys cycling and baking bread for everyone in the office!
Rhys Barrot
Trainee Technician
